North East environmental consultancy makes four new hires
A Newcastle-based environmental consultancy has recently bolstered its headcount by taking on four new ecologists.
Founded by Vicki Mordue, Biodiverse Consulting now boasts 12 team members, meaning it is well on its way to meet its aim of having a 20 strong team before the year is out.
On the recent hires, Ms Mordue said: “The demand for our services is coming thick and fast thanks to the Environment Act 2021 having an emphasis on Biodiversity Net Gain and greater awareness surrounding the need to protect our natural world.
“I’m enjoying cementing a culture among the team that promotes passion, creativity, and integrity. It is also a joy to watch our talented ecologists pursue their varying areas of interest while working towards our common belief; that by supporting developers and landowners business and biodiversity can go hand in hand.
The new hires include graduate ecologists, Callum Goodwin, Caitlin Henderson and Siobhan Bailey and ecology technician, Rose Greensmith.
Caitlin Henderson, graduate ecologist, said: “Creativity has always been a core component of my DNA. At Biodiverse Consulting, our quest to solve the problems contributing to the climate emergency means I can apply this every day.”
The consultancy, headquartered at Dissington Hall in Newcastle Upon Tyne, was founded by Vicki Mordue in 2019, whose aim is to enable nature’s recovery by balancing business and biodiversity. To achieve this, Ms Mordue works with landowners and businesses in the development sector to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) on their new built environment and land management projects, so that wildlife can be restored and carbon offset.
On his appointment, Graduate Ecologist Callum Goodwin, said: “Working to restore nature aligns seamlessly with my values. I’m delighted to be securing a more biologically diverse landscape across the UK on the daily.”
As well as its biodiversity services, Biodiverse Consulting offers ecology services including the delivery of habitat management plans and environmental assessments for large and small scale development projects. Its clients include Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire, Gleeson Regeneration and Pegasus. The consultancy also supports national charities such as The Wildlife Trusts.
More generally, Biodiverse Consulting can provide business support services through its mentoring and CPD schemes, to support the commercial growth of built environment businesses across the UK.
The urgency of Biodiverse Consulting’s work to combat the issue of biodiversity loss in the UK is reflected in its continual growth. The consultancy is currently recruiting for a principal ecologist and senior ecologist to join its developing team.
