Former council buildings in Padiham to go under the hammer

A substantial Lancashire County Council property in Padiham, which housed the town’s youth centre as well as three local shops, is to be put up for auction this month. The three-storey, 9,000 sq ft building will appear in auction house Pugh’s online property auction on 24 May and has been given a guide price of £250,000.

The property, on Burnley Road in Padiham town centre, is home to well-known retailers, Cartmell’s greengrocers, Tony’s sandwich shop and the Central Barbers, which together produce a rent of over £18,000 a year.

Paul Parker, associate director at auctioneer Pugh, said: “The former council building is a substantial and attractive property in Padiham, a picturesque town that’s seeing meaningful investment from some big names such as Lidl, which recently opened a new store in the town, creating new jobs.

“The property is a great investment opportunity and there are all kinds of new uses that it could be put to in the hands of an imaginative developer. Padiham’s got a lot going for it with great motorway links, and some 30 listed historic buildings, evoking its rich heritage as a centre of the coal mining and weaving industries.”

Bidding on the former council buildings, and the other lots in Pugh’s online property auction, opens on 24 May and closes the following day.
