Ryanair adds flights to Barcelona and Cork from Newcastle Airport following £150m investment
Ryanair has put new flights on sale to Barcelona and Cork, adding to their other 19 destinations currently available from Newcastle International Airport.
The routes add two new cities onto the departure board for the North East’s largest Airport, sitting alongside other exciting city breaks for 2022 including Milan in Italy and Riga in Latvia.
On sale from November this year, the flights are available to book from £19.99. Historically “very popular” destinations for the North East travelling public, passengers will be able to fly direct to Barcelona every Saturday and Tuesday, and to Cork every Friday and Sunday between November 2022 and March 2023.
The cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, Barcelona, is known for its art and architecture. Adorned with landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudi, the city is one of Europe’s most popular city break destinations.
The second largest city in Ireland, Cork is located on Ireland’s South West coast. Known as the country’s food capital, loose clothing is advised.
Ryanair recently celebrated the opening of its new base at Newcastle International Airport, representing an investment of £150m and creating over 60 direct new jobs. The airline currently operates over 130 flights a week from the Airport to popular European destinations in countries including Spain, Italy and Croatia.
Leon McQuaid, director of aviation development said: “We are extremely pleased that Ryanair has chosen to operate even more destinations from Newcastle this year, further investing in the region and increasing the connectivity for the North East travelling public.
“These two new routes offer fantastic city break opportunities for our leisure passengers. On top of this, I am confident they will also be popular with local businesses that already do business, or are looking to develop business links, in the two cities.”
Ryanair’s director of digital & marketing, Dara Brady, added: “As Europe’s No.1 airline, Ryanair is delighted to announce our Winter ’22/23 schedule from Newcastle including two new routes to exciting destinations of Barcelona and Cork, both operating twice weekly from the end of October ’22.”
