Bellway cements its place in Northfleet after demolition work completed

As part of Bdailys feature week, the Property Market, we look to homebuilder Bellway that has completed demolition work on the former Northfleet Cement Works, clearing the way for construction to begin on a new development of 532 homes.

The development, which will be known as Harbour Village, off The Creek, will feature a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments as well as two, three and four-bedroom houses, with 160 properties being provided as affordable homes for rent or shared ownership.

The development is part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City regeneration project which is transforming a 76-acre area of land along the River Thames. Almost all of the former cement works have now been removed and Bellway is preparing to start groundworks and begin laying the foundations for the first homes.

Outline planning permission for the 532-home development was granted in 2018, with detailed plans for the first phase of 121 homes getting the green light from Ebbsfleet Development Corporation’s planning committee in November last year.

John Haggerstone, Construction Director for Bellway Thames Gateway, said, “the completion of demolition work on the former Northfleet Cement Works is an important step in the process of regenerating this derelict brownfield site that has been disused for more than a decade.

“This development forms a key part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City project to deliver 15,000 new homes across a large area south of the River Thames.”

The wider regeneration is creating a new neighbourhood of 15,000 homes with commercial units, retail and employment space, and landscaping.

John said, “as well as providing 532 homes at Harbour Village, we are also providing a new community centre and creating two new public open spaces called ‘Chimney View Park’ and ‘Bevans Park’ and a new sports pitch for the local primary school and community to use.

“This will help to address the shortage of green open space that is a legacy of the area’s industrial past and will create a greener neighbourhood for future generations of residents.”
