Dragon LNG partners with Anesco on renewables drive
Dragon LNG, operator of a liquefied natural gas (‘LNG’) terminal in Pembrokeshire, in partnership with renewables developer Anesco, is looking to transition to renewable energy, as part of a commitment to reducing its carbon emissions and supporting the country’s drive towards net zero.
The first step in this project has seen Anesco supporting Dragon LNG with the development of a successful planning application for a 9.9MW ground mount solar park, located on a 35-acre site at the terminal in Milford Haven.
Construction is now underway and once complete, Anesco will also be providing operation and maintenance services, to ensure the installation continues to operate at its optimum efficiency.
Energy generated by the solar park will be used by the terminal site, with any surplus power exported to the local power grid. The 18,500 solar panel farm will provide the site with up to 9% of its electricity needs when the development goes live in Q4 2022.
The land the solar panels are on will benefit from an advanced biodiversity plan that will see the creation of habitats for local wildlife and at-risk species.
Alexis Fletcher, Managing Director, Dragon LNG, commented: “We are delighted that Anesco has joined us to assist on our journey in reducing the site’s carbon footprint and supporting the nation’s net zero ambition. The project underpins our business objective of ensuring we evolve in the changing energy sector and securing our business as far into the future as possible. We look forward to our communities’ involvement in this proposed exciting energy transition project on our meadow at the Waterston Site.”
Mark Futyan, Anesco CEO, said: “We’re delighted to be working with the team at Dragon LNG on the Waterston solar project and to be supporting them with their renewable energy transition.
“As an end-to-end service provider, from development through to build, maintenance, and revenue optimisation, we are well placed to support Dragon LNG every step of the way. An important part of the project will be to give back to the local community, helping educate the next generation on climate change and renewable energy.”
