From constabulary to hospitality: The Northallerton Inn’s first month of trading

Leading hospitality operator The Inn Collection Group opened the doors to The Northallerton Inn on 6th June 2022 and has welcomed a month full of success.

The opening of the pub with rooms created 28 new part and full time roles in the town, whilst during construction worked with Metnor to redevelop the town’s old Police station into a place where customers would definitely want to spend their time.

The opening of The Northallerton Inn follows an 18-month, multimillion pound redevelopment project by award-winning hospitality experts, who purchased the site in 2020. The Georgian building had been a police station for 30 years and was previously a Local Authority office and public library.

It now offers purpose built en-suite accommodation in the heart of the historic town of Northallerton. The former cells turned rooms offer a contemporary place to stay, with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits as standard, as well as free WiFi and parking as standard.

The pub with rooms was officially opened by John Proud, retired inspector of Northallerton Police Station, who was in charge there between 1995 and 2003. The day was a huge success and saw locals join to watch the official ribbon cutting, as well as enjoy the entertainment the pub offered. Wanted-style caricaturist drawings were available, as well as a pick-pocket magician.

Its location is near numerous main roads, making it the ideal place for those travelling for business. Visitors can easily access both the A1 and A19 within a 10 minute drive from the pub, for visits to the Yorkshire, the North East, Cumbria and further afar.

Operations manager, Paul Brown, explained: “We are thrilled with how successful our first month of trading at The Northallerton Inn has been. The site has proved popular to both locals and those visiting from further afar. The task of converting a police station to a pub with rooms proved challenging at times and required a lot of time and effort by everyone involved, but the end product is something we are all very proud of.”
