Hampshire housebuilder’s “spoke-tacular” sponsorship for Saints Foundation’s Big Bike Challenge

Barratt Homes’ Southampton division pledged support for the winning female rider at the Saints Foundation’s Big Bike Challenge last month, helping to raise money for the charity’s 20th anniversary.

The Big Bike Challenge 2022 saw a 13-strong team of riders set off on a nine-day cycle across the country, visiting all 20 Premier League stadiums from 3rd to 12th June.

In the charity’s biggest bike challenge yet, the incredible group of bikers embarked on a journey that started a St James’ Park, the home of Newcastle United FC, and finished at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium, just over a week later.

Vicky Cross was one of the cyclists who took part, and she received a cheque for £600 in sponsorship from Barratt Homes.

Speaking after the event, Vicky, who came first in her age group and was also the oldest female finisher, said she was spurred on along throughout the route by the fact she was fundraising for Saints Foundation.

Vicky said: “This was an incredibly tough challenge, and one that saw us battling through the often unpredictable, British weather.

“Knowing we were raising money for such a worthwhile cause kept us all pedalling through the pain though, and I can’t believe I was both first in my group and the oldest female finisher! A huge thank you to Barratt Homes for their sponsorship – it means so much.”

Tammy Bishop, Barratt Homes Sales Director, Southampton Division, said: “Saints Foundation is currently celebrating 20 years of life-changing work in the community, and we’re delighted to show our support for this significant milestone.

“Congratulations go to Vicky and all the amazing group of cyclists that biked their way around the country for this incredible charity.”

Saints Foundation has been transforming lives in Southampton for two decades. With their support, hundreds of thousands of local people have become more involved, healthier and empowered members of their community.

Barratt Homes is committed to supporting organisations in the local area, and as well as fundraising for Saints Foundation as its chosen ‘Charity of the Year’, it is still making monthly donations to local charities as part of its Community Fund, which donates £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation which improves the quality of life for those living in the region. The initiative is part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes.
