FM Conway wins inaugural CECA Southern Workplace Wellbeing Initiative award

Leading infrastructure services company, FM Conway, is the winner of an inaugural Workplace Wellbeing Initiative Award presented at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Southern Annual Lunch & Awards event.

CECA (Southern) introduced the award to recognise the best workplace wellbeing initiative that has delivered tangible employee and business benefits.

FM Conway has a workforce of over 1700 and is based in Sevenoaks, Kent. The company developed a Mental Health Awareness initiative, with a particular focus on loneliness. Throughout the week, the company ran activities to provide help, advice and discussion around the topic as well as arranging fun and social opportunities to create new or stronger workplace connections. This included ‘Shoot the Hoop’, a basketball challenge which toured sites and depots.

The Workplace Wellbeing programme was developed through various working group discussions and employee forums and ideas were returned to the Mental Wellbeing Strategy Group for final decision and inclusion. Participation was strong and there was an immediate uptake in employees applying for the Mental Health First Aiders Training Course.

Samantha Barratt, CECA Southern Chair, commented: “The team at FM Conway got buy-in from across the workforce and at board level. This was a highly successful project in support of the company’s Healthier Together 2021-2031 Mental Wellbeing Strategy.

“The initiative created a positive atmosphere within which to discuss important mental wellbeing issues and laid the foundation for future activity.”
