Sustainable property developer gains the backing of Gateshead-based brick supplier

Off G, a nature-led off grid property developer, has gained the backing of Gateshead-based brick supplies company McGovern & Co.

Off G, based in Allendale near Hexham, is urging other developers to embrace more sustainable building philosophies, materials and technologies into their projects, to allow a more sustainable way of life, close to nature.

Andrew Pickersgill, managing director of McGovern & Co has joined the Advisory Board of Off G, and also been appointed as Non-Executive Director. Andrew will help to educate and drive change in the construction sector, support innovation and share best practice.

Giuseppe Ferrara launched Off G in 2018 and is currently seeking planning approval for its first pilot scheme of five off grid homes near Hexham. He says: “Nature is the most important end destination in my view. The renewable tech is purely a means to an end: living in nature, anywhere.

“It is also true that there are some amazing sustainable technologies and building materials that are widely available, easy to use and proven to save energy and natural resources but many developers resist using them, either through lack of awareness or fear of the unknown.

“With rising energy prices, now is the time to start moving people onto renewable ways of living, create more sustainable buildings and take a longer term view of the planet’s resources, allowing mankind to live and work close to nature to rediscover the soul in life.”

Andrew Pickersgill said: “Our philosophy at McGovern is people, planet, profit, in that order. We recognise that people want to live in beautiful, sustainable homes that don’t cost the earth.

“We provide a wide range of sustainable building materials to property developers and homeowners across the whole of the north of England and by joining the advisory board of Off G and becoming a Non-Executive Director, I hope to demonstrate our commitment to changing the way that the industry operates.”
