Herbal wellness brand opens new flagship store in a “celebration of Hackney”
Contemporary herbal wellness brand, Lab Tonica, has just opened its flagship store at 78 Chatsworth Road, Hackney.
Lab Tonica Collective, is a herbalist and lifestyle shop stocking Lab Tonica’s “hero herbal teas” & aromatherapy collections, limited editions plus a curated collection of “vibrant and contemporary” brands.
78 Chatsworth Road was once a cherished sweet and tobacco shop left derelict for over 20 years. Lab Tonica Collective has taken over the empty premises, sympathetically keeping the Victorian interior and embracing the characterful feel of the place.
With artfully crumbling walls and authentic Victorian woodwork, stepping through the doorway feels like stepping back in time.
Customers can expect to see Oils, Balms, Mists and Tea from Lab Tonica’s collections including Unplugged to help switch off and drift off, Pow to naturally wake up without the help from caffeine, Fend to bolster defences and strengthen the immune system and Breathe, a grounding collection of botanical products to help keep calm and relaxed.

The permanent Lab Tonica Collective shop is set to be a “celebration of Hackney”, featuring local makers and creators with sustainable brands offering artisan products and gifts. The inaugural collection of brands is an all female line up including:
- Pic n Pix candles by Design & Made
- Handmade lingerie from Buttress & Snatch
- Contemporary artwork and cards from local artist Lucie Jelfs
- Ceramics from Jade Gallup Studio
- Macrame plant hangers & wall hangings From The Garden Room
- Printed accessories from Francis & Louis
Lab Tonica founder Kitty McEntee commented, “I wanted to create a special place in my local community to not only share Lab Tonica, but to offer a platform to other creatives and brand owners from this very eclectic neighbourhood.
“I’ve walked by the store so many times, and often wondered what would become of the old building. Just like a sweet shop, our store is also a kaleidoscope of treasures; to be able to breathe new life into this special place is a great feeling.”
