North East Business Launches One Stop Shop For Electric Vehicle Charging

A north east business has this month launched to provide a full service electric vehicle charging business that will see it become the first of its type to offer EV charging design direct to the electricity network.

UK EV Power Connections – based in New Sleekburn, Northumberland – has launched the business which will offer a complete turnkey service from the design of the network connection through to the final installation of the EV charging station.

Unique to the industry, the business will offer clients the ability to design directly to the electricity network where, previously, this service would have been directed to a district network operator (DNO) and incurred the substantial costs associated with this.

With its direct to the network design approach, UK EV Power Connections is looking to offer distinct cost savings to clients combined with the added value of feasibility studies that will ensure EV Charging stations are located in the most appropriate areas and where cost savings can be in their tens of thousands.

Speaking about the new market offering, Bill Robertson, MD at UK EV Power Connections said: “This new market offering enables companies and local authorities to achieve a design scheme direct to the electricity network without the significant costs previously known in the industry.

Not only this, but our feasibility studies – offered as part of the overall proposal – will guide clients on where to, cost effectively, site their EV Charging Stations.

“Whilst the location of a site might seem obvious and considered, the industry knows that this isn’t always the case and – very often – the installation of EV Charging schemes start, and are too far advanced, before it becomes obvious the site is not ideal or is more costly than originally forecast.

“Our feasibility studies eliminate all of this with a detailed assessment delivered prior to any work starting and where the most optimized and cost-effective location is pinpointed within the geographical area specified and with 100% accuracy. In some cases, we have seen this save clients up to £60,000 on site costs alone.”

Although in its early stages of business, UK EV Power Connections has already successfully completed 15 installations for Local Authorities across the UK including the North East Combined Authority (NECA) and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The business is also in advanced talks with a number of other interested parties including the rail industry and other local authorities.

Current Government legislation states that 145,000 EV charge points must be installed each year in the run up to 2030. There is also a compulsory requirement – from 2022 - for all new homes and buildings and extensive retrofit projects to include these installations.

UK EV Power Connections is made up of former DNO design engineers with a combined experience of 40 years’ in electricity network design and the infrastructure requirements for establishing EV charger connections to both high and low voltage networks.
