Tyneside office park launches sustainable scheme for a “carefree commute”

A Tyneside office park is offering members of its community the option of a carefree commute through a new scheme starting this week.

Quorum Park’s new fleet of e-bikes can be hired on a daily or weekly basis, and members of its workplace community that cycle to work on World Car Free Day this Thursday will be rewarded with a “range of incentives”.

The park is one of a number of businesses across the borough to be working with North Tyneside Council Climate Change Action group to encourage people to ditch their car for the day as part of the annual initiative, or perhaps longer.

Quorum’s new membership scheme, offered through a partnership with Tynemouth based firm Ride Electric, allows staff based at the Longbenton site to choose from either a standard Riese & Müller cycle or its folding Tinker model, from an introductory rental rate of just £12 a week, or £3 for daily hire, booked through the Quorum Park app.

Laura McGrath, Quorum’s events and sustainability lead, commented: “What better day to launch our new e-bike membership offer than World Car Free Day, especially when the cost of living is of such a growing concern for members of our community. We’re really keen to make this the most affordable mode of transport available to our occupants.”

According to figures from personal finance website NimbleFins, using the new e-bikes could save Quorum’s motorists more than £700 a year in fuel alone, based on the usual weekly rental rate of £15.

The bikes, which are fully insured as tenant organisations provide them to individuals through scheme membership, come complete with a helmet, a pannier for transporting personal items safely, and a lock for additional peace of mind.

Laura continued: “Our new e-bike membership offer will go a long way towards helping our community feel they can make a positive difference, not only to the local environment through reduced fumes and traffic noise, but to reducing climate change by personally contributing fewer emissions.

“We’re passionate about embedding sustainability through active partnerships, collaborating with other advocates in the business community to make best use of our combined resources so our environment can flourish, and this initiative will be a proud part of that ambition moving forward.

“Not only that but it can help save people time rather than being stuck in traffic, and they can get fitter too.”
