Giving back to local healthcare charity

Earlier this month, Building Services Now (BSN) Group held its annual charity dinner at Birmingham’s Grand Hotel.

Filled with glitz, glamour and black ties, the evening raised a staggering £25,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

A night of celebration

“The whole event was incredible,” says Helen Miles, head of corporate partnerships, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. “The team at BSN put so much work and resources into making the evening a success, and we’re incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.

“Events like this raise much-needed funds to support us on our journey to providing the best possible facilities and environment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for our young patients. We can’t thank BSN enough for their support, which will help us do more for the 90,000 sick children our hospital treats every year.”

Alongside hosting and organising the event, BSN Group also subsidised the evening’s drinks and canape reception, entertainment and evening activities. This meant that more of the proceeds from ticket sales were able to be directed towards Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

The proceeds of the event were matched with a donation from BSN, taking the total raised to £25,000.

The event’s schedule included a raffle with high-value prizes donated by Think Recruitment, Prosperity Wealth, Travis Perkins, Value Staff, The Grand Hotel and Smith Brothers and Sons, as well as time for socialising and enjoying musical and comedy tribute acts.

Supporting an important cause

“Over the past 18 months, we have worked closely with Birmingham Children’s Hospital on a number of projects, so we’ve been able to see first-hand the extraordinary impact of the charity’s work,” says Darren Perry, Construction Director, BSN Group.

“To be able to give back to the charity in this way is incredibly humbling. The work they do is remarkable in our local community, and it’s an honour to play a part – no matter how big – in helping to make that happen.”

Each year, BSN Group pledges a minimum of 5% of its profits to local social value engagement, including work experience placements, local charity events and various support for local causes.

Recently, this has included sponsoring a local young boxer, Ben Collins, through his training and development, and providing gardening tools and equipment to a local school in Telford for its community garden.

Much of BSN’s charitable work and donations are centred around the healthcare industry, one of the building contractor’s specialist sectors. This includes a recent refurbishment completed free of charge for City Hospital Birmingham’s chapel of rest, following the COVID pandemic.
