11 Yorkshire SMEs to create local jobs via healthtech accelerator programme

11 SMEs have been chosen as part of a digital health accelerator programme designed to help the NHS address some of its most pressing challenges and create new job opportunities in the region.

The programme, known as Propel, is run by the Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Science Network and each year selects 10 SMEs from within the region who have developed “innovative” digital health solutions.

This year’s chosen cohort comprises Viko.ai, Enable2, Careology, Weather Flare, Care Networx, eHealth Compass, Better Medicines, Medwise.ai, The Pulse Health app, ADDvantage Technologies, and Recreo VR.

All were selected due to their ability to help NHS and social care organisations tackle health inequalities, improve their environmental impact, support the workforce and help them to manage the increasing patient backlog.

Now in its fourth year, Propel is a programme which provides Yorkshire SMEs with a six-month course of structured support and advice to help them accelerate their company growth and increase market presence.

Each of the companies in this year’s cohort either already have a base in Yorkshire and the Humber or are willing to establish one with a view to creating new job opportunities.

Dr Neville Young, director of Enterprise and Innovation at the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN, commented: “We’re excited to launch this programme again in 2022 with an increased focus on sustainability this year that has been encouraged by our latest sponsor, the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the chosen SMEs to receive expert advice and guidance from the AHSN and our key partners, so they can navigate the NHS market, increase their presence in the region and spread their innovations for the benefit of those living and working in Yorkshire and the Humber.

“Our work with innovator companies is a central element of our role as we seek to encourage health innovation and stimulate growth in life sciences and industry across our region.”

From October 5, 2022 to April 2023, the cohort will receive support from several expert partners; legal advice from Hill Dickinson, networking opportunities via Nexus, University of Leeds, and funding guidance from Barclays Eagle Labs.
