Pride in London awarded funding to deliver London’s Pride celebrations

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has today announced that Pride in London has been awarded a five-year funding agreement to help them deliver the capital’s world-famous LGBTQI+ celebrations.

The community organisation will receive £625,000 to help them put on London’s Pride celebrations from 2023-2027.

Pride in London were chosen following a competitive open tender process and will use the funding to deliver an inclusive parade through central London, as well as a representative programme of events and entertainment in Trafalgar Square. All bids were assessed by an advisory group made up of representatives from LGBTQI+ communities.

Their bid for funding included the creation of a Community Advisory Council to work closely with LGBTQI+ communities, a clear and definitive anti-racism plan, awards to celebrate achievements across communities and a stage for the Trans community.

Pride belongs to everyone in London and is run by those at the heart of the capital’s LGBTQI+ communities. The funding from City Hall is designed to empower Pride in London to deliver a safe, inclusive and world-class event that showcases London in all its diversity.

Earlier this year, the Mayor announced his continued support for UK Black Pride and an LGBTQI+ reception at City Hall over the same five-year period.

“London is a beacon of inclusiveness around the world and that is in part due to the powerful impact that the Pride march of solidarity and celebration has had on our society over the last five decades.

“Pride in London has set out ambitious plans to work closely with all LGBTQI+ communities to put on an inclusive event over the coming years and I’m looking forward to seeing this delivered.”

Executive director of Pride in London, Christopher Joell-Deshields, said: “Pride in London is proud in this momentous year of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Pride in the UK to be awarded funding by City Hall. This will allow us to continue delivering the capital’s Pride parade from 2023.

“Our dedicated team of volunteers look forward to engaging with LGBT+ communities to build better, ensuring that our platform amplifies national and global LGBT+ issues, celebrates our communities’ successes and empowers LGBT+ individuals through our values of visibility, unity and equality. We look forward to announcing the date for 2023 in the coming weeks.”
