Cheltenham hotel begins major £1m refurbishment

A £1 million makeover of a 16th century manor house hotel in Cheltenham is underway.

Renovation of The Greenway Hotel & Spa will see new life breathed into all 21 bedrooms, creating a “vibrant” and “opulent” look and feel for guests.

Each room will be individually styled around characterful features including existing fireplaces and timber beams, blended with distinct new colour schemes.

Floor layouts will be carefully redesigned to maximise space and create larger bathrooms for guests to enjoy, adding feature showers and freestanding baths.

The Eden Hotel Collection, which owns the boutique four-star hotel, is carefully carrying out the refurbishment in stages to ensure the hotel remains open and unaffected to guests, with final completion expected in January 2023.

The project is being led by Director of The Eden Hotel Collection Marian Cartter, who heads up the group’s design team, assisted by interior designer Lucy Yarwood.

Lucy said: “We are really thrilled to finally start this work.

“It has been a real labour of love to help shape how this will look over the past months, and the key for me has been about creating spaces which are warm and inviting for our guests, and make the best of the charming features in each room.

“Both the bedrooms and the bathrooms are being completely refurbished with vibrant schemes and an opulent design which will enhance guests’ experiences. I am certain our guests will love the new look and feel.”

Mark Chambers, Managing Director at The Eden Hotel Collection, added: “We are really proud of Greenway’s existing offering but we are continually looking at ways to improve the experience of our guests.

“Our work at Greenway is now one of several major projects underway within the Group and marks an exciting period for us all, driving further investment into the business to help our hotels remain firmly at the top of the UK’s luxury boutique sector.”

The announcement follows hot on the heels of The Greenway Hotel confirming Craig Routledge as its new General Manager, joining from sister hotel Brockencote Hall Hotel in Worcestershire.

The hotel, which holds a 4 AA Red Star rating, is set in eight acres of stunning countryside grounds in Shurdington off the A46, on the outskirts of the rolling Cotswolds.

It boasts the sumptuous Elan Spa, which has been awarded 5 bubbles from the Good Spa Guide, and fine dining at the 3AA Rosette Garden Room restaurant.

The Elan Spa will remain open as normal for spa days and treatments to hotel residents and non-residents throughout the works, while the Spa Café will also remain open as usual to spa day guests.

The Garden Room restaurant will also remain open for dinner as normal for hotel residents and non-residents, however afternoon tea will only be available on Saturdays and Sundays while the refurbishment takes place.

Midlands firm Builtec Developments Limited, based in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, has been awarded the contract for the refurbishment programme.
