Mexican restaurant brand comes to Durham city centre following £10m funding
Fast-casual Mexican restaurant brand Tortilla will open the doors of its 59th restaurant, located in the centre of Durham, at 27-28 Silver Street, Durham (DH1 3RD), on Friday, November 18.
Seating up to 30 people, the new restaurant will create 20 new jobs for locals across front-of-house, kitchen, and management roles. The restaurant will be located in Durham city centre, open for eat in, takeaway and delivery.
The launch of the Tortilla in Durham brings with it the brand’s customisable and authentic California-style menu, with dishes to suit all tastes, cravings, or dietary requirements. The expansion comes following the brand’s investment of £10m made by Santander UK last year.
Whether ordering in-store, click-and-collect to takeaway, or for delivery, customers can build their own meal with a choice of tasty fillings such as Mexican rice, black beans, grilled seasonal veggies and fresh mild, medium and hot salsas, including their fresh, hand-smashed guacamole.
Its choice of protein, served in tacos, burritos, bowls, quesadillas and atop nachos queso, includes slow-cooked Barbacoa with grass-fed British Isle brisket, grilled chicken or succulent pulled carnitas pork.
Approved by the Vegetarian & Vegan Society, Tortilla also serves an organic tempeh Chilli No Carne or a choice of grilled seasonal veggies. All toppings are prepared fresh on-site each morning and every dish is made to order.
Jason Thomas, chief operations officer of Tortilla, commented: “We are hugely excited to be opening a site in the centre of thriving Durham. The location we have acquired in the city centre is a popular spot and will provide locals and visitors with a convenient and delicious option for lunch or dinner.
“We look forward to welcoming plenty of happy customers into the store and playing our part in this thriving community.”
