Construction firm expands North East credentials with £2.2m Darlington projects

Triton Construction has secured two education building contracts valued at over £2.2m in Darlington, expanding its credentials in the North East.

Darlington College has awarded a £1.75m contract to Triton to deliver a new 8,250 sq ft engineering studies block. The two-storey building, located behind existing facilities at the college campus off Haughton Road, has received a £2.69m grant from Darlington Borough Council’s Town Fund.

The facility will provide two advanced engineering workshops on the ground floor with classrooms upstairs, allowing the college to expand its engineering courses at all qualification levels.

It plans to develop learning around the fast-growing sector of electric vehicles with the installation of training rigs and will also link courses into the recently developed robotics hub which is now open on campus.

Triton is currently on site delivering the building of steel portal frame which will be clad in a specialist Forticrete decorative block. It is engaging with local labour and apprentices during the construction of the project which is due to complete in the New Year.

Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College has also contracted with Triton to build a 6,500 sq ft roof extension above an existing two storey side extension.

The £1.45m design and build contract includes the delivery of four new classrooms, two break out areas, circulation spaces, storage, roof access and associated alterations. It will allow the college to increase student capacity from 2,096 to 2,329.

Paul Clarkson, managing director at Triton Construction, commented: “We are delighted to secure these new contracts for two highly regarded educational establishments in Darlington. They provide great endorsement for Triton in the North East region where we hope to be able to expand our portfolio of work.

“Our credentials in Yorkshire and the North West are superior, not least in the education sector, and we are excited to pursue regional growth on the back of a successful trading year.”
