North Tyneside's Climate Emergency Board invites local businesses to a free seminar

Local businesses are invited to a free seminar hosted by the North Tyneside Climate Emergency Board, to discuss energy management and carbon reduction in a changing climate. As fuel prices rise, reducing energy consumption and exploring sustainable sources of power is an important topic for all businesses.

The half-day event will take place at the Village Hotel, Cobalt Business Park, Silverlink North, on the 24 November 2022, from 9.30 – 11.10am.

Any local business, no matter the size or sector, can attend to hear how other big businesses in the area are saving energy as part of their commitment to managing their climate impacts.

Delegates will hear from Greggs, Proctor and Gamble, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, Sterling Pharma Solutions and North Tyneside Council, on how they are working to reduce their carbon emissions in the face of the climate crisis.

The upcoming event follows North Tyneside Council’s ambitious plan working towards becoming Carbon Net Zero by 2030. As part of this commitment, the council is dedicated to helping other local businesses achieve efficient energy management and, ultimately, build a brighter forecast for the future of our climate. The North Tyneside Board are planning further seminars in 2023.

The borough-wide Climate Emergency Board was set up by the council earlier this year, to address the urgent need for action in the fight against climate change. The board is made up of public sector organisations and commercial and industrial businesses, collectively working to combat the climate crisis.

The businesses represented in the seminar are all existing members of the board and thus have embarked on a pathway to reduce carbon emissions and work collectively to support development projects which will contribute to the 2030 Action Plan.

Councillor Sandra Graham, cabinet member for Environment and Joint Chair of the Authority’s Net Zero 2030 Board, said “This seminar is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to discover how they can further their contribution to the fight against the climate crisis; it’s also timely in light of COP27 and the global energy issues we are all facing.

“There is still a lot of work to do when it comes to carbon reduction and embracing the great work already being carried out by other companies is a brilliant way for businesses to assess whether they can do more.

“The more businesses that commit to managing their energy, the better chance we have at preventing the climate emergency from becoming any more critical.

“The council is committed to helping businesses effectively manage their corporate responsibility roles, companies that do this successfully ensure that they are monitoring the impact their organisation makes on society and the environment. The Climate Board’s seminar will help businesses to better understand their corporate responsibility and ensure that they are operating in a way that is sustainable.”
