Popular Mexican bar and restaurant brings “fine and authentic” dining to Chelsea

Following the success of its popular Camden restaurant & bar, which opened in 2005, the team behind Mestizo have announced the launch of a second site in Chelsea.

The concept of a group of Mexicans who wanted to bring “fine and authentic” Mexican cuisine to London, Mestizo offers vibrant, diverse, colourful and delicious gastronomy.

Due to the success of the original Mestizo restaurant and the shop in Camden the decision was made to expand into other areas of London, and a lack of traditional Mexican food was observed in Chelsea.

The menu is said to be “truly authentic”. Starters include Mexican Tapas “Antojitos’ and fresh Ceviche. The popular Taco Tray is designed for sharing, with a range of fillings to “build your own concoction”. Main dishes include “well known” traditional dishes and “some you might not know”.

The Margarita Bar is headed up by ‘Cocktail Witch’, Aima Indigo, who has curated a bespoke tequila based menu, including her favourite flavours including Hibiscus, Lavender, Mole and Lychee.

Roberto Alvarado opened his first restaurant in Mexico in 1974 with the renowned ‘Grupo Anderson’. Around 25 years ago he came to Europe, bringing Mexican cuisine, traditions and culture with him. Mestizo has been open in Madrid for 14 years and London for 17 years, and the restaurants are managed by family members.

Roberto’s son Carlos, who will manage the new restaurant, said: “After years of experience in the European market, and with the recent changes in the hospitality industry, we saw an opportunity for a refresh and want to combine the culture, traditions and entertainment Mestizo has always offered with a new approach led by the next generation of our family.

“Our new opening in Chelsea is the culmination of years of work with a fresh, new generation to take it forward.” Mestizo caters for all dietary requirements with gluten free, vegan, dairy free and nut free menus.
