Innovative edtech app miMove named as award finalist

Edtech company miMove has been named as a finalist for a prestigious award for its impact in encouraging young people to have a more positive relationship with physical activity.

miMove and partner Aspire Active Education Group are up for the Tech Collaboration prize at the West Midlands Tech Awards, the annual celebration of the region’s digital and technology success stories, run by leading regional news brands BirminghamLive, CoventryLive and BusinessLive.

The ceremony, to be held at Millennium Point in Birmingham on December 15, will celebrate the West Midlands’ top tech and digital companies, entrepreneurs and rising stars.

The award finalist placing recognises how innovative app edtech firm miMove partnered with Birmingham-based Aspire to help young people engage with physical activity.

Working together, they joined up with 14 Birmingham schools to encourage young people to move regularly. Aspire built on their existing relationships with schools to work with miMove to increase levels of engagement around pupil physical activity by introducing the ground-breaking app.

miMove is being rolled out around the globe by the London-based company to encourage young people to be active. Online platform miMove logs physical activity in and out of school, giving teachers the chance to capture student voice through a one-way messaging feature and enabling them to support and motivate pupils.

As well as having access to a dashboard of headline data in real time, miMove allows teaching staff to view and analyse the data of different cohorts. It is now being used by more than 60,000 children at 200 schools in 22 countries around the globe.

miMove founders Greg Dryer and Marcella Griso have drawn upon extensive experience in education and working with young people to shape miMove, which they created to address high levels of child physical inactivity, one of the world’s biggest problems.

“With users in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America, we are building a strong user base worldwide while helping more children to get involved in physical activity.”

“In the future, Aspire believe that there are opportunities to use miMove with parents who can give further insights into their children’s activity trends out of school hours.”

Last week Aspire was named Birmingham business of the year at the Birmingham awards for its work tackling child inactivity and creating employment for young people.

For the second year in a row, Aspire won the education engagement award at the Greater Birmingham Apprenticeship Awards.

Based in Spitfire Road, Birmingham, and with 56 team members, Aspire provides innovative delivery and training services along with education resources with an aim to “end physical inactivity forever” and help one million children move by 2025.
