Accountancy firm helps Liverpool FC’s Women’s squad kick their personal finances into shape

The Speke-based company, which has around 2,000 professional sports stars on its roster, is headed up by former Tranmere Rovers midfielder Jack Mackreth.

He and Kyzen Sports co-founder George Mansfield are on a mission to help athletes with their financial health, and were called in by the Anfield club to offer some expert guidance.

Jack, who has also played professionally for Bury and Wrexham, said: “We were delighted to be invited down to talk to the LFC women’s players and help them understand some of the important factors they need to consider to keep their finances as healthy as their bodies.

“It’s great to see women’s football booming in this country on the back of the Lionesses’ fantastic Euros triumph in the summer.

“The knock-on effect has included much greater interest in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and much larger crowds attending matches.

“It’s now at a stage where young girls have a host of identifiable role models and can imagine themselves making a career out of the game. But with that professionalism comes added financial pressures and we are all about explaining and guiding players through what, at times, can be a minefield of complex information.

“It’s also worth bearing in mind that while professional footballers can enjoy fantastic careers, the window for that is relatively short and they need something substantial to fall back on once their playing days are over.

“Liverpool FC does an excellent job in looking after the players and providing everything possible to make them successful, both on and off the pitch. We really enjoyed attending the session and adding both our expertise and personal experience to the mix in order to bolster that success.”

Topics covered during the session included the basics of income tax, how to correctly read pay slips, paying tax on agents fees, medical insurance and accommodation.

Kyzen Sports’ Jack said: “It was a great session and we enjoyed explaining some of the subjects involved to both the playing squad and staff. Hopefully we’ll be back again to advise the next generation of women’s players coming through the ranks at Liverpool.”
