Children’s charity in Chichester receives financial support from housebuilders

Chichester-based Sussex Snowdrop Trust which offers support for local children who have a life-threatening or terminal illness, has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.

The Sussex Snowdrop Trust is currently supporting 73 local children who are on the ‘Snowdrop Pathway’ and have been diagnosed with a life threatening or terminal illness, which includes cancer, brain tumours, leukaemia, heart and lung irregularities.

The charity also supports children, and their families, going through a long and complex diagnosis, as well as a ‘Nursing Care at Home’ service, which provides vital nursing care at home to assist parents on how to care for their child.

As part of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund, which gives to worthy causes in the region, the charity has now received an important financial boost.

Di Levantine, Chairman and Co-Founder of the Sussex Snowdrop Trust said she is delighted to have received the support.

She commented: “Invariably, one parent gives up work to care for an ill child, which can put a huge financial strain on families – something that has been heightened during the cost-of-living crisis.

“This generous donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes will contribute to the petrol vouchers we are sending out to local families who are attending treatment and appointments at Southampton or Great Ormond Street Hospital for their sick child. A huge thank you on behalf of everyone here.”

Anthony Dimmick, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Community Liaison Manager, Southampton Division, said: “The Sussex Snowdrop Trust is making a huge difference to the lives of local children and their families, and when we heard about their work, we had to help. It was a real pleasure to hand over this cheque today.”

The Sussex Snowdrop Trust team offer support for families right from a child’s diagnosis, giving emotional support via counsellors if required. It is reliant on the generosity of businesses and the community to raise the £350,000 a year needed to provide its vital services.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund is a dedicated financial resource that helps to support local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.
