Dot Bagel rises with the help of Newcastle based artisan bakery

A Tyneside bakers which went into liquidation is about to get a new lease of life, after the brand was purchased by a leading hospitality company.

Dot Bagel’s site at Chillingham Road, which made and sold a range of sweet and savoury bagels, closed its doors in October. But now the shop should be up and running again by early December, after the assets were bought by the team behind successful artisan bakery and café, Kennedy and Rhind.

K & R, which currently operates from premises at Holly Avenue West, Jesmond and also has an off-site bakery, is breathing new life into the company – which includes re-employing the majority of staff who lost their jobs went the business folded.

Stuart Young, owner of Kennedy & Rhind Ltd, said Dot Bagel was a perfect fit for the company. “We will be offering a range of bagels as Dot Bagel did in the past but customers will also now be able to enjoy the range of baked goods that we offer at Kennedy & Rhind and at the various pop-ups we run,” he said.

“We are delighted to not only have taken over the brand but also to have been able to give most of the old team their jobs back. We have initially created around 12 jobs and hopefully that number will continue to grow.”

Café facilities at the Chillingham Road branch will be expanded to include offering for the first time a range of hot and cold drinks, as well as pastries and pies.

“We believe the new look Dot Bagel, with its expanded product range will be really popular. We are looking forward to unveiling the full menu in the very near future,” added Stuart.
