Coventry business wins tender to deliver free construction leadership and management training
A Coventry business has won a share of a contract worth £10.5 million to provide 10,500 free leadership and management training courses in the construction industry.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has selected The OM Group in Matlock Road, Foleshill, to run some of the ILM Level 3 Qualifications in Leadership and Management Practice for the Construction and Built Environment Sector.
These qualifications are suitable for frontline managers, site managers and supervisors and will give delegates a detailed understanding of leadership and management principles, enabling them to effectively manage staff.
The OM Group will deliver all the training for the award and certificate qualifications in Scotland and Wales and is among other providers in England for the courses which will get underway in January 2023.
Following industry feedback and research that has been conducted or reviewed by CITB, it was highlighted that the construction sector would benefit from a significant increase in leadership and management skills.
CITB also recognised that there was a lack of funding and knowledge of the qualifications that are available, with additional factors such as a general decline in management and supervisory training provided by employers in the last five years, playing a part in the industry’s skills gap.
The OM Group CEO and Co-Founder Damini Sharma said “The OM Group is proud to be a continuing voice for change in the construction sector and excited about playing a major role in upskilling the industry.
“These qualifications will be a game-changer for managers and supervisors in the industry, as well as for businesses – helping drive productivity, growth and more opportunities for the sector.”
Craig Humphrey, Managing Director at the CWLEP Growth Hub, said the ILM qualifications will be offered to companies of varying sizes, including micro, small, medium and large sized companies, to address leadership and management training requirements across the industry.
He said: “It is important skills are developed throughout the construction sector and the fact that it is free will be welcomed in these difficult economic times for businesses. “It is fantastic The OM Group has been chosen to be among the training providers to deliver these training courses and it underlines their reputation as industry experts with a wealth of knowledge and experience.”
In accordance with UK Government procurement regulations, CITB has committed that this commission will address social value. It will tackle workforce inequalities, increase supply chain resistance and capacity, as well as support employers to address skills gaps through the provision of recognised qualifications.
