Middlesbrough based Press On Vinyl grows following a successful first year in business
Middlesbrough-based independent pressing plant Press On Vinyl have announced the doubling of their capacity thanks to the arrival of two new pressing machines. Beginning production in 2022, Press On Vinyl was first established as a way to help independent artists and labels get their records pressed and their music heard.
Following a successful launch, Press On have taken delivery of two new state-of-the-art pressing machines that double their capacity to around 6,000 records pressed per day while cutting lead times down to between 12-14 weeks. Powered by a bespoke steam and cooling system, the high-precision machines consume considerably less energy than industry standard pressing technology without compromising on quality.
As capacity grows at the Teesside plant, last year saw Press On launch the beta of their innovative pre-order based e-commerce platform FairSound.
Designed to remove the financial and logistical barriers between independent artists and labels pressing their music to vinyl, FairSound allows users to fund, manage and distribute vinyl release campaigns with no upfront costs, no overwhelming minimum runs and no lengthy lead times.
Coupling this with the plant’s new Neuman master lathe, custom-built, in-house mastering studio and in-process plans for on-site recording and production facilities, Press On has grown from an ambitious endeavour to a rapidly growing operation pushing UK vinyl production forward whilst still championing great music that might otherwise never reach record store shelves.
Press On Vinyl co-founder Danny Lowe said: “We have worked, learned and made immense progress over the last year, we are now extremely happy with our quality. With two new pressing machines we now have double capacity and our lead times are 12-14 weeks. This is made possible by the quality and speed of our in-house galvanic’s department.
“The mastering suite is fully commissioned and operational and we are producing our own cuts on our VMS80 Lathe. 2023 promises to be a fantastic year, we will be pressing records 24 hours, five days a week.
‘We are ready to take on orders to fill this capacity and move towards the UK being the pinnacle of vinyl record pressing. There’s loads more projects on the horizon as we put the finishing touches to our live room and get ready for some in-house production and take the process full cycle.“
