Leeds digital sports media platform expands with Midlands based acquisition
Planet Sport, the Leeds based digital media group that specialises in sports and betting entertainment, has announced the acquisition of Tipstrr, a Staffrdoshire based marketplace for sports betting tips.
With its purchase of Tipstrr, Planet Sport, which is the media group behind titles such as Football365, Teamtalk and PlanetF1.com, intends to enhance its betting content proposition and develop “new and engaging” subscription models for its customers.
Planet Sport plans to develop the Tipstrr product suite and cross-promote the brand across its owned and operated titles. The acquisition will additionally strengthen its ability to provide insights, live coverage and content across sports including football, racing, boxing, and golf, both to its 20 million-strong monthly audience as well as its B2B clients.
Tipstrr itself operates a platform that aggregates, proofs, and accredits sports betting tips from sports betting experts; processing and verifying more than 100,000 betting tips per month. It also tracks the odds for each tip at the point the tip is made, to then record ongoing and historical profitability of the tip selections.
Through the integration of Tipstrr’s tools, properties and attributes, Planet Sport aims to add a strong betting content and data product and a new tech team to its business, alongside a base of registered active users and a range of proven sports betting tipsters. Planet Sport will also include it being able to showcase its betting partners across Tipstrr.
Tipstrr founder, Damien Fearn, commented: “At Tipstrr we’ve always focussed on creating great products and tools in the sports betting industry. Joining Planet Sport allows us to reach a much wider audience and offer genuine value to more sports fans across the globe.
“The fit between the two companies was clear, even very early on in our discussions. The Tipstrr team and I are looking forward to growing as part of the Planet Sport network”
In addition, Barrie Jarrett, CEO of Planet Sport, added: “We have been following Tipstrr for a while and had previously identified them as a great fit to enhance Planet Sport’s D2C and B2B offerings in and around the sports betting market.
“We are delighted to now welcome Damien and the great Tipstrr team to Planet Sport and we are looking forward to the acquisition delivering further growth for the business in 2023.”
