Increasing numbers of Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders make move to Mauritius following success of Premium Visa

Growing numbers of UK entrepreneurs, business leaders and digital nomads have switched British shores for island life in Mauritius, following the successful launch of its Premium Visa scheme.

Introduced in November 2020 by the Economic Development Board [EDB] Mauritius, the Premium Visa scheme enables any foreign national to live on the island as a tourist, retiree or professional with their family for one year.

Developed to help Mauritius bounce back quickly from the economic impact of COVID-19, the Premium Visa scheme has since welcomed hundreds of professionals to its shores, who now work remotely from the island.

Among those who have relocated from the UK, 56% are working professionals with the majority business owners, directors, managers, and consultants - highlighting a real shift in how the UK and wider global business community now operates.

This comes as the UK economy continues to struggle, with its 5.5 million businesses facing the challenge of rising costs due to inflation, utility bills and increasing tax rates.

Sachin Mohabeer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of EBD Mauritius, said: “The World of work has completely transformed since the outbreak of COVID-19, with businesses worldwide operating in a more flexible and agile capacity, underpinned by the power of technology.

With a growing economy that increased by 7.2% during 2022 alone, Mauritius is fast becoming an attractive location for business and investment, supported by our ‘future-ready’ and global financial infrastructure. We hope that as more and more professionals take advantage of the Premium Visa scheme to visit and work in Mauritius, they are more likely to split their time between their home nation and the Island on a long-term basis, while benefitting from our advantageous business and tax policies.“

The success of the Premium Visa scheme comes as EDB Mauritius invites UK Business Leaders, High-Net-Worth Individuals and Property Investors to come and learn about its ‘land of opportunities’ via a dedicated Business and Investment Forum to be held in London this March.

Taking place at the Conrad London St James Hotel, Westminster, on Thursday 30th March 2023, the EDB Mauritius Business and Investment Forum is free to attend and will enable up to 150 attendees to gain valuable insight into the exciting growth and development opportunities on the Island.
