Mediaworks partners with Newcastle SEN school to “create a world of opportunities”

Mediaworks, the award-winning digital marketing agency, has attended Hadrian School as part of its ongoing support of the specialist education facility in Newcastle’s West End.

The Gateshead based business approached Hadrian School in Benwell as part of its commitment to create a “world of opportunities” for future generations, and launch its newly introduced volunteering initiative which allows all Mediaworks staff time out of the office to support charitable schemes.

Members from the Mediaworks team took a day away from their desks to help transform both indoor and outdoor spaces at the school, painting classrooms, collecting leaves and tidying outdoor play areas, building a tyre wall around unsafe areas and tidying and pruning the Willow Caterpillar Garden.

Hadrian School caters for the additional needs of pupils aged between two and 11 years who have a range of severe, complex learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Chris Rollings, head teacher at Hadrian School, commented: “Our school motto is ‘Together we make a difference’; and by working in partnership with local businesses, such as Mediaworks, we can make an even bigger difference to the lives of our pupils and their families.”

The school relies on support from businesses, charities and the local community to maintain its range of superb facilities. These give the children a broad variety of fun, purposeful and creative learning opportunities to celebrate each child’s individual talents and personalities.

Mediaworks has previously raised funds for Hadrian School’s ongoing £2m plan to create a new hydrotherapy pool at the school. Mr Rollings continued: “The new hydrotherapy pool would be the first of its kind in the UK, that would adjoin our existing sports hall and rebound therapy centre.

“Our pupils could regularly use the new facilities, and they would benefit from them well into adulthood. Currently, many provisions for our pupils would end when they reach 19, and we want to work to change that. The new centre would include the pool, a gym and even a café offering jobs to those with additional needs.”

Rachael Heron, senior digital PR executive at Mediaworks, added: “I was delighted to be able to continue my personal support for Hadrian School through into my professional career through our new volunteering initiative.

“Showing my colleagues the amazing work of the staff and the fantastic pupils brings me so much pride. I’m thrilled so many of my colleagues came to lend their support and help improve things for everyone there.”
