EDPR appoints Carmen Caminero as UK country manager

To oversee EDPR’s current UK projects and help accelerate the country’s energy transition plans

EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR), the world’s fourth-largest producer of wind and solar energy, has appointed Carmen Caminero, a professional with extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, as EDPR UK’s new Country Manager. Carmen has been the Senior Business Development Manager and Project Manager in several independent producers (IPPs) in France and Spain, as well as Deputy Contract Manager in a major infrastructure project in Norway. This professional career has given her extensive international experience.

An engineer by training and with an Executive MBA from the Instituto de Empresa (IE), she has more than ten years of renewable energy sector experience. In her new position, she will help grow EDPR in the UK, which is a key market for the company. She will also work towards accelerating the country’s current energy transition, focusing on the company’s positive economic, social and environmental impact.

“The transition to clean energy is undoubtedly an important part of UK energy policies. At EDPR, we are committed to effectively implementing this transition in line with the Climate Change Act, which legally binds the UK Government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 100% from 1990 levels (net zero) by 2050,” says Carmen Caminero, EDPR UK Country Manager.

Her appointment also reflects the company’s firm commitment to gender diversity and female talent. As envisaged in its 2023-26 Strategic Plan, EDPR aims to reach 31% of women in leadership positions by 2026, and 35% by 2030. It also plans to expand the percentage of women in the company overall to 36% by 2026 and 40% by 2030.

EDPR has been in the UK for over ten years, during which time it has successfully consolidated its position in the offshore segment. The company entered the UK onshore market in 2021 with a wind and solar portfolio totaling over 500 MW of projects under development. EDPR has one project in operation in Scotland, along with several others under development in Scotland and Wales. Moreover, the company has a portfolio of almost 1 GW of solar projects under development in the UK through Kronos Solar EDPR (a Germany-based solar energy developer that is majority-owned by EDPR).

Thanks to the joint venture owned by EDPR and Engie (known as Ocean Winds), EDPR therefore diversifies its longstanding presence in the country, where it currently has 1 GW of gross offshore capacity under construction and close to 1 GW under development. Moray East, the company’s first offshore project in the UK, entered construction through Ocean Winds in mid-2022.

Through Ocean Winds, EDPR has also extended its global leadership position, with 14.7 GW of installed capacity in four strategic hubs (Europe, North America, South America and Asia Pacific) in both onshore and offshore. The company has also tripled its offshore portfolio from 6.6 GW in February 2021 to 16.6 GW in March this year. In this regard, EDPR occupies a leading position in this type of energy through Ocean Winds, with 25 MW in operation in Portugal, 30 MW under construction in France, and 5.6 GW under development in California, the UK and South Korea. Furthermore, Windfloat Atlantic, the world’s first submersible floating wind farm located in Portugal, has reached 75GW/h in its first year of operation.
