Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust expands presence at The Curve following six-figure refurbishment

Independent property consultancy Naylors Gavin Black has secured Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a long-term tenant at The Curve.

The choice for the Trust to expand its presence at The Curve has been driven by staff wellbeing and a desire to provide colleagues with a modern flexible workspace, a central location that reduces travel time for our community colleagues serving the west of Newcastle, and “most importantly achieved good value for the public purse”.

The move follows a “significant” investment in refurbishment by the building’s owners, IGP Investments, which was led by Naylors Gavin Black, who also facilitated the initial purchase of The Curve in January 2022.

The property management team was appointed to advise on the operational running of the building. The refurbishment works have created a “more collaborative environment” within the three-story glass fronted building, and has seen a flurry of enquiries from prospective tenants.

Jess Ross, associate partner at Naylors Gavin Black, commented: “It is always pleasing when an existing tenant expresses a desire to expand their presence within a property like this. It demonstrates that our planned program to upgrade the facilities is bearing fruit and adding substantial value to our client’s investment in the longer term.

“Many businesses are reconsidering their location in light of the changing workplace expectations of employees.

“Known as the flight-to-quality, occupiers are seeking highly-specified offices, which not only have the facilities to allow people to do their work, but also provide additional amenities like high quality communal spaces, low carbon transport connections and collaborative environments.”

Anthony Bailes, property manager at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added: “The choice to expand our presence at The Curve has been driven by a desire to provide colleagues with a modern flexible workspace, a central location that reduces travel time for our community colleagues serving the west of Newcastle.

“The work that has been undertaken at The Curve was a huge factor in our decision making, with a focus on staff wellbeing, and our workplace needs to reflect that.”

Harry Black, chief executive officer at Yelverton Properties, asset managers of The Curve, said: “We are delighted to welcome additional NHS personnel to The Curve. It is fitting that an organisation devoted to improving the health and welfare of the nation has recognised our focus on creating a workplace that has wellbeing at its core.”
