HCA Healthcare UK Invests £18m in Canary Wharf outpatients and diagnosis centre

In early 2024, HCA Healthcare UK will open a £18m, 20,000 sq. ft state-of-the-art outpatients and diagnostics centre in the heart of Canary Wharf.

An expansion of the services currently delivered at 2 Upper Bank Street, the new centre, less than 200 yards away, will meet the growing demand for private healthcare from the area’s professional and residential populations.

It will include a wide range of services, from GP-led health screening, specialist consultant-led outpatient clinics and fertility expertise, to a comprehensive range of on-site imaging and diagnostics including early pregnancy scanning, mammography, x-ray and MRI scans.

Canary Wharf’s growing healthcare needs Canary Wharf is part of the fastest growing local authority in the UK, increasing demand on the existing healthcare infrastructure. Major development projects including North Quay, Wood Wharf and South Dock Bridge alongside the recent opening of the Elizabeth Line (Crossrail), have significantly improved transport links for the working and residential population.

More than 30 per cent of the population working and/or living in Canary Wharf has private medical insurance, and as demand for private healthcare has grown so too has the number of people choosing to access this insurance or self-pay for their care. HCA UK has also seen growth in primary care screening services and referrals to specialist care as professionals return to the office.

HCA Healthcare UK at Canary Wharf will be operated by London Bridge Hospital, extending its range of outpatient access points that currently includes HCA UK City of London and HCA UK at The Shard.

Patients requiring onward referral for both routine and complex care across a wide range of sub-specialities such as women’s health, orthopaedics, cardiac, and cancer care will have swift and seamless access to London Bridge Hospital, alongside HCA UK’s wider network of hospitals and specialist clinics.

Janene Madden, CEO of London Bridge Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, said: “I am excited to announce that we will be opening HCA Healthcare UK Outpatients and Diagnostics at Canary Wharf in early 2024. This will give professionals and residents working and living in the area a new convenient access point to HCA UK’s high-quality healthcare services.

“Building on the success of HCA UK at The Shard and HCA UK City of London, HCA UK at Canary Wharf is an exciting development to the wider London Bridge Hospital campus, bringing together primary care and leading consultant expertise with state-of-the-art facilities and diagnostics.”

John Reay, President and CEO of HCA Healthcare UK said: “Our £18m investment in HCA Healthcare UK at Canary Wharf reflects the growing demand for high quality private healthcare.”

“From complex care to GP services and outpatient and diagnostic care, our ambition has always been to ensure we can care for a patient no matter what their health need and in locations they can access quickly and easily. Our expansion in Canary Wharf will be a strong development in the HCA Healthcare UK network.”
