Creative Abbey College Manchester Students Inspired by City Sights
Talented students at Abbey College Manchester have been praised for their creative flair following a highly-anticipated trip to London and photography challenge.
Art, Photography and Textiles students visited the vibrant capital city where they were tasked with capturing a variety of photographs to contribute to their portfolios for exhibition at the college, and to enter into an inter-school competition.
Throughout the educational visit, the students were introduced to some of the world famous galleries and museums on offer, as well as taking in other cultural aspects of the city. Seeking out inspiration and gathering material for their own projects, the budding-photographers visited a range of galleries including the Royal Academy, the Centre for British Photography and Tate Modern, where they viewed important works by historical and contemporary artists and photographers.
With many of the students visiting the capital city for the first time, there was also an opportunity to see iconic landmarks such as Big Ben and the London Eye, in addition to taking a walk along the Thames. The students enjoyed their free time exploring the galleries and shops in Carnaby Street and Oxford Street, before rounding the trip off with a West End Show at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
Abbey College Manchester’s Principal Chris Randell commented, “The level of creativity and talent here at Abbey College Manchester is exceptional, and it has been a pleasure to see the plethora of outstanding work produced during this trip. Staff members who visited London with our students have since commented on how rewarding it was to spend time with them as they took in the sights and the artworks, while also gaining inspiration from the city and its culture.”
“Our Creative Arts department at the college is thriving. In addition to helping students to develop their practical skills, we strive to encourage expression and the exploration of personal creativity far beyond the classroom, with activities such as the recent trip firmly showcasing our commitment to ensuring that our students receive an all rounded art experience.”
From September 2023, Abbey College Manchester is expanding its Creative Arts department with the introduction of A Level Graphic Communications, enabling students to explore a variety of experiences that delve into graphic communication media, processes and techniques – both traditional and new.
