BDO audit trainee conquers Everest trek for Solihull charity

80-miles, 12 consecutive days reaching altitudes of 18,373 feet, BDO audit trainee Rohan Anand has conquered the iconic Himalayan adventure, the Everest base camp trek – all in the name of charity.

The 23-year-old spent three weeks in Nepal preparing for, and completing, the high-altitude challenge. He trekked seven miles a day, starting from Lukla, before reaching Everest base camp on 30 March.

The trainee, who joined the accountancy and advisory firm in June 2020 as part of its school-leaver apprenticeship programme, took on the mammoth challenge to raise money for the Carers Trust Solihull.

Rohan said: “The Carers Trust Solihull is an incredible charity, which supports adult and young carers looking after people who are disabled, elderly or ill. The charity offers vital help, advice, assistance, service, advocacy, and education to try and help ease the burden of carers – a cause close to my heart and one I really wanted to support in the best way possible.”

So far, Rohan has raised nearly £1,300 for the Midlands-based charity, following the gruelling trek.

He added: “The Everest base camp trek is definitely one to tick off the bucket list and a must-do challenge for enthusiastic trekkers. I’m delighted to have completed the trek, particularly for such an amazing cause.”
