Yorkshire Beauty Festival Celebrates Local Businesses and Voices

The inaugural This is Yorkshire Beauty Week will take place 22-26 May with events held across the region. Created by Yorkshire cosmetic surgeon, Dr Lubna Khan-Salim, the week-long festival aims to celebrate Yorkshire based businesses and voices by putting the spotlight on key issues including representation in beauty, sustainability, and women’s health.

Launching on Monday 22nd May, it begins with an event on Sustainable Beauty and a screening at the Everyman Cinema in Harrogate with a panel discussion with B-Corps brands including NEOM Organics. Th week includes daytime and evening events running every day until Friday 26th May.

Dr Lubna Khan-Salim hopes the first-of-its-kind celebration in Yorkshire provides an opportunity for people to learn, be inspired and have fun at the events planned:

“We have a fantastic mix of events and topics covered across the week - from the future of bio-hacking, to the language of beauty, and the impact of social media. Whether you want to learn more about the latest brands, trends and make up techniques, or play your part in conversations on pivotal issues impacting the industry and society, there really is something for everyone.”

The week-long festival has garnered support from brands including Harvey Nichols, The Body Shop, John Lewis, The Ivy York, Koncept Studios, Huma Humad and Grantley Hall who are all hosting events across the week in Harrogate, Leeds, York, and Bradford.

Dr Lubna adds: “We wanted to create something new for the region, that brought together the passion, talent and skills that we have here in Yorkshire. It’s a grassroots movement that has generated lots of interest and support, particularly around the representation and inclusivity of beauty and I’m excited to see the positive impact these events will have on those who attend and take part.”

Beauty and Social Media will be the topic of a round table event at The Ivy York on Tuesday 23rd May, with guests enjoying lunch over a discussion on the role and impact social media plays when it comes to influencing beauty standards.

The topic of Make Up and Identity is the theme for the Harvey Nicholls event held on Wednesday 24th May, when media broadcaster Stephanie Hirst will be sharing the role make up has played in her transitional life, as well as demos from make up artists using innovative and inclusive brands such as Fenty and Nars.

On Thursday 25 th May guests are invited to a special event focused just on the beauty of eyes at award winning Asian bridal boutique, Huma Humad in Bradford, with everything from makeup trends and techniques to brows and tweakments covered by the experts.

The week will end with an event at John Lewis with their Beauty Society team showcasing the future of beauty and skincare with leading brands including Origins, Lumene and Caudalie.

As part of This is Yorkshire Beauty two bespoke prints have been designed that are available as a poster and jumper to support the Yorkshire-based charity, The Burns Club.
