Bellway North East nears completion of Ryhope development

The creation of a housing development, which is seeing more than £1.5m invested in the local area, is coming to a close in Ryhope, Sunderland. Bellway North East has delivered 109 new four and five-bedroom properties at its Burdon Rise development, on land off Burdon Lane, with just three four-bedroom houses remaining for sale.

As well as providing new homes, Burdon Rise will also bring investment from Bellway as part of the planning agreement for the development, including more than £730,000 for affordable housing to be built in the locality.

Other contributions the developer is making include more than £310,000 towards primary schools near the development, more than £76,000 towards children’s play equipment at St Matthew’s Field, off Mill Hill Road, and more than £200,000 towards the Ryhope to Doxford Park Link Road.

Contributions totalling nearly £220,000 are going towards ecology and habitats, including towards Blakeney Woods local wildlife site.

Emma Chesterton, Bellway North East Sales Director, said: “We are coming to an end of work at Burdon Rise, with just three properties left to sell, bringing to a close a five-year development in Ryhope. Our plans were approved in September 2018 after which we started the construction programme on the site.

“From the moment we launched the development in 2019, there was very strong demand from buyers who were attracted by the collection of top-quality four and five-bedroom homes in a great location.

“Families were drawn here by the range of well-respected primary and secondary schools in the area and the fact that it is just four miles to the shops and amenities in Sunderland city centre and a short drive from award-winning beaches at Seaburn and Roker.”

One resident who is loving getting to know her new neighbourhood is Linzi Potts, who has moved into her new four-bedroom home at Burdon Rise, with her boyfriend Chris Price.

Operations manager Linzi said: “Living here, we have the best of both worlds, as one way it is just a few miles to all the shops and bars of Sunderland but the other way is a country lane which leads to the seaside. Most Sundays, we get up early and tackle the walk along the coast to Seaham where we have breakfast at a lovely café, before we walk back.”

Burdon Rise features a large public green open space and has a footpath which follows the perimeter of the site connecting the site internally and externally.

Emma said: “Our time at Burdon Rise is almost at an end as our final completions are due to happen towards the end of this summer, but there are still a few chances for people to make this development their home.”
