County Durham construction firm invests seven figures in latest vehicle technology

County Durham based construction firm, Esh Group, has invested £1m in nine new 32 tonne tipper wagons complete with latest, most efficient vehicle technology.

The organisation’s brand-new Euro 6 compliant vehicles will improve carbon efficiencies by 16 per cent based on average miles per gallon (MPG), marking an annual saving of 108 tCO2e.

Brian Wray, plant director at Esh Group, commented: “Our commitments to operating in a more sustainable way don’t stop on site. As part of our continued drive to reduce carbon emissions, we are encouraging a move to hybrid vehicles where possible for those in the company car scheme.

“In 2022 we launched a new flexible benefit for our colleagues which allows them to drive a brand-new, ultra-low emission vehicle through a fixed monthly salary sacrifice arrangement.”

Esh Group has invested in a telemetry system that also includes an in-cab drivers lightbar. This alerts the driver to any harsh events, speeding and excessive idling aiming to improve their driving quality.

Brian continued: “The system will help to reduce fuel usage as well as wear and tear on each vehicle. This should help in saving approximately 240 litres of fuel per vehicle based on 15,000 miles, in turn further improving our vehicle miles per gallon (MPG).”

Esh Group is a construction and built environment group of companies which operate across the North of England and Yorkshire.

The firm provides civil engineering, commercial build, affordable housing, refurbishment, and retrofit for a wide range of private and public sector clients. More recently, Esh Group has been appointed to work on high profile schemes on the Tyne Bridge and Stockton Waterfront.
