Care home group staff take on Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

A team of employees at HICA Group, a not-for-profit care organisation that owns and manages homes across Yorkshire, have successfully conquered the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, to raise money for its residents.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a 24-mile walk with 5,200 feet of ascent through the Yorkshire Dales, where you summit the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The eight-strong team, which consisted of 6 walkers and two helpers travelling in a support vehicle carrying supplies and providing assistance when needed, managed to raise over £1,000 for the Group’s SHINE fund, used to pay for activities uniquely tailored to residents’ needs, to enhance their quality of life.

Setting off from Horton in Ribblesdale at 5:20 am in rainy weather the first peak to conquer was the Pen Y Ghent. Whernside followed next where the rain stopped, and the sun shone. Lastly, Ingleborough completed their journey. The team completed the course in 12 hours and 55 minutes.

HICA’s CEO Terry Peel said: “It was fantastic to be involved in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and we were fortunate that the weather was on our side that day. Completing the challenge was an amazing experience for all of us and truly underscores the significance of teamwork, which lies at the heart of our ethos at HICA Group. We are immensely proud of our team’s dedication, resilience, and their commitment to supporting our SHINE fund, which will make a positive difference to the lives of those people we support. Well done to everyone who was involved in the day - it was fantastic achievement for a brilliant cause.”
