Dorset developer awarded finalist places for dedication to first time buyers
A partnership between Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Southampton division and Dorset Council offering discounted homes to local first-time buyers has secured one of two finalist places for a highly-coveted award.
The leading Dorset developer, which is currently building new homes across the county, has secured two finalist places at the First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards 2023 that celebrate ways in which the industry has gone above and beyond to help aspirational buyers take their first step on the housing ladder.
One of those finalist places was in the Best Partnership category for Barratt David Wilson’s work with Dorset Council to offer discounted homes to Dorset residents priced out of the local housing market. All that was needed was a connection to the county to get a 20% discount – an attractive deal for first-time buyers, downsizers or growing families.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes Managing Director, James Dunne, said: “Our partnership with Dorset council is testament to Barratt David Wilson’s pledge to provide high-quality, energy efficient, sustainable homes that are also affordable. Since its launch in January 2023, the discounted homes scheme has provided the largest number of discounted homes Dorset has ever had on one site.”
The Dorset housebuilder’s second finalist place was in the Best Large Development category for its Harbour Place development in Bedhampton, Hampshire which secured a win for Best Residential Development at the South Coast Property Awards this month.
Harbour Place enhances and supports the environment while allowing its residents to live in harmony with nature. With more than 30.5 acres of green space, the beautiful development is home to 31,000 bee-friendly planted shrubs and trees, 15,682 new sapling hedgerows, 9 acres of wildflower meadows and 6 biodiversity areas with ponds.
James continued: “We’re still basking in the afterglow of a recent win for our Harbour Place development, so to follow up with two more finalist places is such a great achievement. These awards mean a great deal to us and we’re looking forward to the award ceremony in September.”
Winners of the First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards will be announced at a special ceremony on Friday 1st September in London.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes have 11 active developments across Hampshire, Dorset, West Sussex, and the Isle of Wight. Making a significant economic and social impact in the region, the developer has invested £46 million locally, more than £300,000 of which has gone to local charities, and employees also dedicated 520 hours of volunteering to charities and local initiatives.
