Rugby stars on target as event raises nearly £30,000 for charity
Two World Cup winning rugby stars have teamed up to help raise nearly £30,000 for a specialist charity at a hugely successful clay shooting event.
England stars Lawrence Dallaglio and Will Greenwood – both members of the team which lifted the World Cup in Australia in 2003 – led the way as the event raised over £28,000 for the Get A-Head Charitable Trust.
Get A-Head helps support people across England and Wales suffering from neck and head diseases, including cancer, and has raised more than £10million since it was formed in 1994.
The sun-soaked event, at the world-famous Royal Berkshire Shooting Ground, attracted teams from across the country and was hailed a resounding success by Get A-Head chairman Tom Bromwich.
“We couldn’t be more delighted with the success of the day and the fantastic contribution which both Lawrence and Will made to helping us raise so much money.
“We were blessed with beautiful weather, a fantastic day of sport and, most importantly, tremendous generosity from all those who took part to help us raise so much for such a good cause.”
Tom, the founding partner of Coventry-based commercial property agency Bromwich Hardy, added: “Events such as this are a vital way of raising the profile of the charity whilst also boosting its funds, and the fact that we were able to have so much fun while we were doing it made it all the better.”
Get A-Head director Danni Heath said: “I cannot thank enough all those who came along, took part and helped raise this tremendous amount. Every penny will go towards our work to help treat head and neck disease and cancer and make a huge difference to the lives of those affected.
“Today’s event will help us fund research projects, buy specialised equipment, provide grants to support groups and patients’ organisations and lead the fight against some of the rarest cancers and diseases.”
The event was organised by Steve Dixon of The Do Club and enjoyed main sponsorship from City Electrical Factors. As well as the shoot, it included a meal, auctions, and talks from Dallaglio and Greenwood. Get A-Head founder John Watkinson was also on hand to tell guests of the work Get A-Head has done since he helped set it up and its plans for the future.
