'Flood Mary' publishes new Property Flood Resilience Guide

With around five million properties considered to be at risk of flooding, leading property flood resilience and recovery champion, Mary Long-Dhonau OBE, has announced the publication of the 2023 edition of the Householders Guide to Property Flood Resilience.

In the wake of a series of summer flash floods affecting many locations across the country, the Householders Guide to Property Flood Resilience aims to equip property owners with invaluable advice, practical guidance, and industry contacts to enhance their flood resilience and recovery efforts as the threat of flooding continues to increase.

The indispensable guide, co-authored by Mary and Carly Rose PhD – both of whom have experienced flooding first-hand – provides detailed information relating to household insurance, flood resilience products, property-level sustainable drainage solutions, and a comprehensive directory of verified manufacturers.

Mary Long-Dhonau OBE, said: “We are seeing more and more flood events each year – and not just in the winter or by rivers or the coast, but during the summer with flash floods indiscriminately making their mark.

“The truth is that flooding is an increasing threat to so many people. Having experienced flooding myself, I know just how appalling it is; the Householders Guide to Property Flood Resilience has therefore been updated to help as many people as possible to take control.”

Continues Mary, “Over the years, I have spoken to many flood victims who all agree that the recovery from a flood can be far worse than the flood itself. The Guide helps people to stay one step ahead and reduce the impact flood water can have, meaning it has the potential to turn their recovery from months to just a matter of days. I therefore encourage everyone to share the free Guide far and wide so we can help as many people as possible!”

The 2023 Householders Guide to Property Flood Resilience is packed with invaluable advice to help people better prepare, enabling faster repair and recovery times. It also provides information on approved Kitemarked resilience products, meaning homeowners have access to reliable and effective solutions.

Concludes Mary, “I travel extensively around the country on my Floodmobile and give copies of the guide to those who have either been flooded or live at flood risk and they refer to it as their new ‘flooding bible’! Follow my Twitter feed for details on forthcoming Floodmobile events - the next event will be at the Tendring Show in Essex this coming weekend.”

Flood Re, Resilico, RAB Consultants, Lakeside Flood Solutions, Dam Easy Flood Barriers, Watertight International, Whitehouse Construction and M3Floodtec have generously sponsored the creation of the guide.
