On the 75th anniversary of the NHS…Hampshire housebuilder shows support for Friends of PICU Family Fun Day

As the National Health Service (NHS) marks its 75th anniversary, Barratt Homes Southampton Division has shown its appreciation for a local charity looking after children in hospital and their families, with an important sponsorship.

The leading housebuilder, which donated to Friends of PICU earlier this year when the family of one of its employees received the charity’s help during the Strep A outbreak, has now signed up to support its Family Fun Day in August.

As the country celebrates 75 years since the founding of Britain’s health service on 5th July 1948, Barratt Homes wanted to donate to the charity which supports the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at University Hospital Southampton, once again. Friends of PICU Operations Manager, Kerry Houghton, said she’s extremely grateful.

She said: “We were delighted to receive Barratt’s help earlier in the year, and to have its support for our summer fundraiser, is just fantastic! Our Family Fun Day will be raising some all-important funds for our charity, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of our sponsors and supporters. A huge thank you to Barratt Homes from all of us here.” Anthony Dimmick, Barratt Homes Community Liaison Manager is thrilled that the housebuilder could help.

He said: “Friends of PICU are providing an incredible service for children who are receiving care in hospital, and it’s a real pleasure to sign up as sponsor for its family fundraiser, especially as the country celebrates 75 years of the NHS.”

On the NHS’s 75th anniversary, Barratt Homes is also extending its Key Worker Deposit Scheme for another six months, to help NHS workers across the region afford a new home. In addition, the developer will be donating £75,000 to three charities. NHS Charities Together, The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and the Florence Nightingale Foundation, will each receive £25,000.

Barratt Homes is building new homes across the county and is committed to supporting local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.

Friends of PICU has the aim of relieving sickness and preserving the health of the patients of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton University Hospital, by providing or assisting in provision of equipment, facilities, and services.
