Bellway announces new East London development amid £550k local investment
Bellway Strategic Land has gained planning permission for 66 new properties in Rainham, Medway, after a successful appeal.
The Planning Inspectorate issued its decision on Thursday June 22 to allow the scheme off Moor Street to go ahead, after a three-day hearing in April. Bellway Strategic Land lodged the appeal after Medway Council refused its application in October last year.
In March, the council resolved to withdraw its opposition to the scheme in the light of an appeal decision, with documents from the Planning Inspectorate saying the council concluded that the scheme should in the overall balance be granted planning permission.
Bellway’s plans are for 49 two, three and four-bedroom homes for private sale, along with 17 affordable properties including four maisonettes.
Ben Stacey, Bellway Strategic Land director (South), commented: “We are pleased to receive the go-ahead for our new scheme in Rainham, following this appeal. This is an important decision which will help meet the housing need in the area.
“We have worked closely with the local authorities to carefully consider highways issues and sensitively maintain the heritage of the surrounding area. Now we are keen to get started on the next stage of delivering this new neighbourhood for Rainham.”
The development, which will occupy land north of Moor Street and east of Otterham Quay Lane, will include houses from Bellway’s Artisan Collection. As part of the planning agreement, Bellway has committed to investing more than £550k in local infrastructure and services.
