Hampton by Hilton set to open in Rochdale town centre

Rochdale Borough Council and Hilton have signed a franchise agreement to bring a new Hampton by Hilton hotel to Rochdale’s revamped town centre.

Located at the heart of Rochdale town centre, the hotel is a short walk from the central Metrolink stop and next to the new Rochdale Riverside retail and leisure development. The seven-floor property will house 146 bedrooms, a restaurant and state-of-the-art fitness suite, complete with Peloton bike.

Hampton by Hilton Rochdale is part of the £65m Upperbanks scheme, which is being delivered by Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) on behalf of Rochdale Borough Council. The scheme also includes a new high quality apartment development, comprising 242 apartments housed in two apartment blocks.

Upperbanks has attracted more than £20m of external funding, with over £17m from the government’s Future High Streets Fund and over £3m from the GMCA Brownfield Development Fund. It is part of a wider £400m transformation of Rochdale town centre.

Hampton by Hilton is renowned for providing contemporary accommodation designed for quality-driven and value-conscious travellers. The hotel will feature bright, modern guestrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi and the brand’s signature free hot breakfast, and will be operated by one of the UK’s leading hotel management companies Legacy Hotels & Resorts.

Councillor Daniel Meredith, cabinet member for regeneration at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It’s great to see this game changing development take another major step forward.

“We’re now within touching distance of the opening date and this will signal the completion of yet another part of Rochdale town centre’s ongoing £400m regeneration programme. To bring a top brand like Hilton into the borough is testament to the strength of our investment programme and I know this will be a very popular addition to the area.”

Graham Dodd, managing director development, Hilton UK and Ireland, said: “We’re pleased to be partnering with Rochdale Borough Council and Greater Manchester Combined Authority, driving the growth of Rochdale as a regional business and leisure hub. Hampton by Hilton Rochdale is a great addition to our UK portfolio and we cannot wait to welcome guests to this exciting new hotel.”

Andy Townsend, founding director & chief executive officer of Legacy Hotels & Resorts said: “We are thrilled to continue our expansion of new build hotel projects. Hampton by Hilton Rochdale becomes our fifth trading hotel project flagged with a Hilton brand with a further seven in our active projects pipeline.

“The hotel is targeted to open its doors in mid-September and happens to coincide with Legacy’s 18th birthday, so the event becomes a double celebration. Our hotel leadership team is now in place and will be led by General Manager Ashleigh Thompson, who is herself a Rochdale resident, with the remainder of the operational roles being recruited over the remaining weeks.”
