Battersea Power Station announces launch date for bar and restaurant offering
Modern dining food hall Arcade Battersea has announced that it will open on Wednesday July 26 inside the “iconic” Battersea Power Station.
With seating for 500, the space will continue Arcade’s direct-to-table ordering system, eliminating the need to queue at stands and limit the need to book ahead, with only groups of 12+ requiring a reservation. All food brands in Arcade Battersea have been developed via Arcade Create, a programme that helps new and exciting food talent launch a brand.
Four new concepts feature on the menu, all exclusive to Arcade Battersea, including Flat Bread by Thomas Straker; Siu Siu Cantonese comfort food inspired by roast meat shops in Hong Kong; and Phed Power, serving fiery food from Issan, Thailand.
Thomas Straker, who has spent the last decade at some of London’s top restaurants, launches his first new concept since opening Strakers in Notting Hill in November 2022. He has put all of his attention on his “beloved” flatbreads, creating seven dishes for Arcade Battersea, all smothered in his “much loved” butters.
Phed Power offers the street staples of Bangkok and Issan, the food that Thai people eat everyday. Pad Grapao is the unofficial national dish of Thailand, consisting of chicken stir fried with fragrant holy basil, served with rice and a fried egg.
Siu Siu Cantonese Comfort food is inspired by roast meat shops in Hong Kong. Sorrowful rice, a popular dish in Chinese culture made famous by the 1996 film ‘God of Cookery’ will be the star dish. This includes oven-roasted char siu Iberico pork, finished on the grill served on steamed rice slicked with sweet soy, pickled mustard greens and a fried egg.
Cokey Sulkin, COO of Arcade, commented: “Arcade Battersea is an exciting addition to the South West London food scene. Not only is it a unique dining experience that allows for people of all ages to try different cuisines but it’s also an exciting offering to showcase new and emerging food brands that we have developed via the Arcade Create programme.”
Arcade Battersea is located inside the heart of the restored Grade II listed Battersea Power Station. The interior design, by award-winning architects Red Deer, takes inspiration from the two eras the Power Station was built in, merging the glamour of the roaring 1920s with Brutalist 1950s style, whilst keeping sustainability at the forefront.
“Elegant” details and reclaimed items from the original Power Station, such as the light fittings, recalling the isolators used in the original Power Station control room, and the reused oak timber flooring, have been incorporated into the design, adding to the “unique” aesthetic while remaining respectful to the heritage of the building.
