Maxim FM's Growth Journey Continues With Contract Wins Worth £3M

The North East’s largest independent contract cleaning and facilities management firm is heading towards a major landmark after picking up contracts worth more than £3m over the last year.

Maxim Facilities Management’s annual turnover has passed £13m for the first ever time – and the Sunderland-headquartered firm is now expecting it to hit a billing rate of £15m in the next 12 months.

A range of new six-figure contracts have been secured in the education, engineering and public sectors in the first half of the year, both within and outside the North East, while a long-term contract with North East social housing provider Gentoo has also renewed for a further two years.

The company has taken on more than 150 people over the last 12 months, taking its total workforce up to 1,250, and is expecting to see this number continuing to grow.

Maxim FM provides commercial contract cleaning and facilities management services to public and private sector clients, and operates in every part of the UK, aside from London and the South East.

It has branch offices in Leeds, Swindon and North Lanarkshire, and works with a range of well-known firms and organisations, including Hitachi, Alpek Petrochemicals, Quorn Foods, Kromek plc, Salford College, Durham Cricket and the whole property portfolio of the Scottish Prison Service, including its brand-new prison in Stirling.

It has particular strengths in the education, health and social housing sectors, and is on track for achieving its five-year strategic goal of becoming a £20m turnover company with around 2,000 employees by 2025.

It has achieved a four-fold increase over ten years since securing an initial investment in 2013 from regional fund management firm NEL Fund Managers, who remain an investor today.

Graham Conway, founder and managing director at Maxim FM, says: “Our long-term focus has always been on achieving consistent growth, but the pace at which we’ve been going this year has surprised even us and it shows no signs of slowing down through the rest of the year.

“Our reputation for providing high quality, reliable services is growing, particularly with businesses in sectors like education, health and engineering where we’re well-established, and as well as winning new contracts, we’re also regularly picking up incremental business from existing clients for additional cleaning services.

“We are well established as the North East’s largest independent cleaning and facilities management firm and are now regularly competing successfully for contracts with some of the industry’s biggest national names.

“This is enabling us to keep creating substantial numbers of new jobs and we’re expecting to see our workforce continuing to grow through the rest of the year and beyond.

“We have a solid pipeline of new business opportunities lined up and feel confident that we’ll hit the £15m billing rate in the next 12 months.”
