East London housing development generates six-figure investment in services
More than £550k is to be spent on services in the Rainham area after a new housing development was granted planning permission.
Bellway Strategic Land gained permission to go ahead with the scheme after a planning appeal ruled in its favour on Thursday June 22. The 66-home scheme on land off Moor Street has been secured by Bellway Strategic Land and will include 17 affordable homes for local people for rent or shared ownership.
The planning agreement for the scheme means homebuilder Bellway will invest £296k for education facilities from nursery age through to sixth form, £87k for the improvement of open space, and £43k towards the development of healthcare services.
Other contributions will go to wildlife measures, footpaths, libraries, sports facilities, youth facilities, and other community infrastructure.
Chris Moore, managing director for Bellway Kent, commented: “It was great news to be given permission for this scheme and we are looking forward to getting started on our new development in Rainham.
“As part of our planning agreement we will be investing a significant amount of money in local services focused largely on health and education, which will bring real benefits to the community.
“And with a substantial proportion of the new properties being affordable homes, this meets a need among people who may otherwise struggle to access a home in Rainham. It’s going to be a fantastic neighbourhood with green open space at its heart and a play area for youngsters, so it will make a really positive contribution to the area.”
The private homes for sale will range from two to four-bedroom houses, while the affordable homes will include a range of houses and four maisonettes.
