Leeds Yoga studio on a mission to make Yoga more accessible

Leeds-based Yoga Hero has launched an innovative “Pay What You Can” scheme, to help make Yoga more accessible during the continued cost of living crisis.

The scheme sees prices for five, ten and twenty class passes priced on a sliding scale to allow customers to choose a price that works for them. As an example, a five class pass is priced from £32.50, working out at just £6.50 per class (standard price £9.50 for a 60 minute drop in class).

Customers have the option to slide the scale down for something more affordable to them, or up for something a little higher that will help to support the scheme. Launching on Instagram this week, hundreds of people have taken to the platform praising the initiative, with one user saying “This is why Yoga Hero will always be my favourite studio” and another adding “This is so great, so many people will benefit from this!”.

Studio owner Holly McFee hopes the new pricing will help bring Yoga’s physical and mental benefits to those who need it most in the current financial climate. Holly comments: “We asked our community how they were getting on in this awful cost of living crisis, and as expected the answer was ‘not good!’. We knew we needed to do something to support people.

“Financial stress is like a heavy cloud that just won’t go away, it’s just awful. The burden of money worries cause endless worry, anxiety, it disrupts sleep and makes our entire being tense. Yoga has an endless toolkit to help manage and alleviate that stress, but so many people simply don’t have the spare cash to make it to a class.

“Yoga teachers, studio owners and really all small businesses are caught in this trap of not undervaluing what they offer, keeping their own heads afloat and all the while offering affordable options to customers. The launch of Pay What You Can in August helps us to do just that, and hopefully goes some way towards supporting the people of Leeds and beyond this summer.”

The scheme is running as a trial throughout August, alongside various other permanent fixtures on offer at Yoga Hero to help make Yoga more accessible. The studio also offers regular Pay As You Feel classes led by teacher trainees, which are free to attend, as well as a “Karma Hero” scheme, where customers can get a free membership worth £50 per month in exchange for two hours volunteering at the studio.
