Bed Kingdom pledges support to Candlelighters in the fight against childhood cancer

Bed Kingdom, a Yorkshire-based online retailer specialising in bedroom furniture, has made a 3-year pledge to support Candlelighters, a children’s cancer charity in Yorkshire, UK. The pledge will see Bed Kingdom donate £5000 every year to aid Candlelighters in their mission to help children battling cancer and their families.

Candlelighters is a charity bringing light and hope to families facing childhood cancer across Yorkshire, providing emotional, practical and financial support from diagnosis and for as long as needed, and funding research into childhood cancers. The support from the charity extends from support for children and families on the oncology wards and clinic at Leeds Children’s Hospital to the provision of talking therapy and wellbeing, peer support groups and events, financial grants and holidays, and providing home-from-home accommodation for families with children staying on the wards.

Iain Blackwood Hobbs, Partnerships Executive at Candlelighters, said, “We are absolutely delighted that Bed Kingdom has chosen to support Candlelighters. Their fantastic 3-year pledge gives us the confidence to invest in services that will have such a positive benefit to children and their families who are going through such unimaginably hard times. From everyone at Candlelighters, we want to say a huge thank you to Bed Kingdom.”

Founded in 2011 by Ashley Hainsworth as a university project with a £400 investment, Bed Kingdom has grown into a thriving e-commerce business, employing 28 people. The company offers a wide range of bedroom furniture, focusing on children’s beds, and is committed to providing customers with stylish and affordable options for all age groups.

In 2021, Bed Kingdom launched Noomi, a sustainable, FSC-certified bed brand specialising in wooden beds - bolstering the company’s dedication to sustainable practices. The firm has recently started participating in the United Nations Framework for Climate Change, contributing to rainforest protection with every customer purchase. So far, this has resulted in 47,205 trees protected and 233 acres of rainforest saved.

Most recently, the children’s bed specialist was recognised in the Sunday Times Top 100 Fast-Growing Companies 2023 after experiencing record growth during the past three years.

With its dedication to making a positive impact and supporting good causes locally, Bed Kingdom has also extended its support to the local charity Rainbow Baby Bank. The Heckmondwike-based charity supports vulnerable families around Kirklees, Ossett and Lupset to provide items to families and mothers-to-be that are in need – working to prevent or relieve poverty. Bed Kingdom recently donated ten mattresses and plans to continue supporting the charity with donations in the future.

Levon Hall, Marketing Manager at Bed Kingdom, expressed his enthusiasm about supporting the two local charities, saying, “It is with humility that we express our pride in being able to offer our support to Candlelighters. The incredible work they do, not only in the fight against cancer but also in making a positive difference in the lives of those affected, truly leaves us in awe. The Bed Kingdom team feels extremely grateful to be able to participate in this journey with the Candlelighters charity and others involved.”
