Royston-based Heat Pump installer joins £35m fast growing nationwide network of energy experts

Cleantech business, Green Building Renewables, continues its rapid growth across England as it expands its operations with the acquisition of Royston-Based Eco-Energy UK Power LTD.

Headquartered in Yorkshire and now with thirteen regional offices around England, the company has grown from 18 staff to over 150 in under two years, and Its turnover has increased more than tenfold in the last two years from £3m to £35m.

The acquisition of Eco Energy Power UK Ltd expands Green Building Renewables operations into Hertfordshire, Essex, Cambridgeshire and South Bedfordshire. Husband and wife duo Matt and Rachel Saunders founded the company in 2008.

Green Building Renewables installs renewable technologies, including solar PV panels, air and ground source heat pumps, battery storage, and EV charging. In the last two years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of solar panel installations in the UK.

The UK Government is currently incentivising market growth in the heat pump sector with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and removing VAT from April 2022. It is targeting 600,000 annual heat pump installations by 2028 (market size of c.£9bn).

Green Building Renewables expansion is a direct response to the rapid growth seen in the UK renewables sector, partly due to the energy price crisis coupled with consumers growing awareness and desire to be more environmentally responsible due to the impacts of climate change.

Managing director of Green Renewables, Chris Delaney, said, “People across the country are transforming their homes and businesses, and their relationship with energy, by embracing renewable technologies. Energy price rises have dramatically affected the bottom line of many businesses nationwide, and more companies and organisations are looking at ways to lower their bills.

Many businesses that have joined the Green Building Renewables network are family businesses that have grown organically in their operating regions. Rachel Saunders, co-founder of Eco Energy, said, “Since we began, we have seen a gradual rise in the demand for our work. However, customer demand has dramatically increased in the last few years, and we have been working at full capacity.
